GUISEPPE MAZZINI’NİN POLİTİKA TEORİSİNDE DEMOKRASİ, ULUS VE KOZMOPOLİTİZM

Abstract

Modern Avrupa demokrasisinin, Fransız Devrimi’nin içerdiği “eşitlik, özgürlük ve kardeşlik” ilkelerine referansla temellendirildiği olgusunun yanında, tarihsel olarak daha sonraları ulus-devlet egemenliğinde bir politika tarihi aksının ortaya çıktığı da aşikardır. Guiseppe Mazzini’nin (1805-1872), demokrasi, ulus ve kozmopolitizm üzerine düşünceleri, Fransız Devrimi’nden sonraki Avrupa demokrasi ve ulusçuluğunun on sekiz ve on dokuzuncu yüzyıldaki karakterini etkilemiştir. Mazzini’nin görüşleri, hem on sekiz ve on dokuzuncu yüzyıl politik çehresini görebilmek, hem de yirminci yüzyılda bazı modern ulus devletlerin totalitarizme ve faşizme nasıl dönüştüğünü anlayabilmek açısından önemli bir kaynak sunmakta. Çalışmamız Mazzini’nin demokrasi tanımını ve ulusçuluk ve kozmopolitizme genişleyen politika düşüncesini serimlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, Mazzini’nin bireysel haklardan kolektif haklara ve ulusçu birliğe yönelen vurgusunun temellerini ele alacak, ulus birliğinin kozmopolit bir birleşik Avrupa kavramsallaştırmasına genişleyen yapısına odaklanacaktır. Son olarak da Mazzini’nin görüşlerinin yirminci yüzyıla etkileri tartışılacaktır.

In addition to the fact that modern European democracy is based on the principles of equality, freedom, and brotherhood in the French Revolution, historically, it is clear that a history of politics has emerged in the dominance of conception of the nation-state. Guiseppe Mazzini's (1805-1872) views on democracy, nation, and cosmopolitanism have influenced the characters of European democracy and nationalism in the eighteenth and nineteenth century after the French Revolution. Mazzini’s views provide an important source of understanding both the political aspects of the eighteenth and nineteenth century, as well as understanding how some modern nation-states transformed into totalitarianism and fascism in the twentieth century. Our study aims to expose Mazzini's definition of democracy and the idea of politics that is expanding into nationalism and cosmopolitanism. The study will focus on the foundations of Mazzini's emphasis on individual rights and collective rights and nationalist unity, and it will focus on the structure of the unity of the nation expanding to a cosmopolitan unified European conceptualization. Finally, the effects of Mazzini's views on the twentieth century will be discussed.
